Warning: Flammable material

Blog dude has today become preoccupied with the humble shell suit, as modelled elegantly below in Figure 1. by Sir James Savlon from Leeds:

Figure 1. Jimmy Saville, suited

but not booted

Noun
Singular
shell suit
Pluralshell suits
shell suit (plural shell suits)

A lightweight tracksuit consisting of a matching zip-front jacket and matching elasticated trousers, each having an outer nylon shell, often bearing panels and flashes of different colours, and inner cotton lining; popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s both as sportswear and as general leisurewear.

Blog dude is thinking about getting one of these from a charity shop and wearing it all the time, even in bed and everything. And at job interviews and funerals and stuff. Blog dude is old enough to have experienced the heyday of said garment, when everyone thought they were the business; one simply had to have a decent shellsuit just to avoid looking like a dick.

How fashions change, eh?

The blog dude attends a University in the north of England and thinks he would turn a few heads in a shellsuit.

27th Sept 2009

I know this may be a tad late in the day, but I'd like to send out a massive respec' to the one and only Michael Jackson who died over the summer. There's a line in Harper Lee's book saying that 'it's a sin to kill a mockingbird.' It seems to me like that's what happened somewhat with MJ.

An undeniable pop culture icon and genius in his field, his admission to enjoying the company of children in a cynical age was an oversight; an age where any man who isn't married with two kids gets labelled as a paedophile. He was ahead of his time in more ways than one - many folks just don't understand that somebody might actually have honest and wholesome intentions and be a loving person.

MAYORAL

I saw this sign in a local shop window and it stopped me in my tracks:

I immediately began to wonder who or what MAYORAL might be.

The conclusion I have come to is this: I believe that MAYORAL is the reincarnated spirit of a 16th century tyrant warlord seeking to exact revenge on humanity for ending his life.

It's very exciting!

If you have any comments to add or suggestions of your own about the identity of MAYORAL, please send them in.

26 Sept 2009

Welcome friends!

Also, welcome enemies.

This is the first in what promises to be both an exciting and un-exciting voyage . . . a shadowy flight into the world of a man who does not exist, if you like.

Each day (or every few days if the old memory loss/apathy kicks in), I will present to you here the musings of my largely uneventful existence. It will hopefully serve as an antidote to the standard journalistic fodder, the newspapers and television programmes that create fear and anxiety. I'll offer words of wisdom and motivation for you to take on your travels. There will be zero scaremongering.

All being well, if you tune in, you'll laugh, you'll cry . . . and then maybe laugh a little more.

And it's free.

Cool, eh?

Is wicked, non?

Today's topic : Lying

Do you lie? Not like a cat lies, relaxing on the floor after it's had its tea or just butchered some defenseless furry creature in the back garden.

The human kind - saying something you don't believe in, saying something that hasn't happened, saying something that you don't feel.

I was brought up in a kind-of christian environment. You go to Sunday school, they tell you that one of the Ten Commandments is that thou ' shalt not lie.' If you asked why (which kids do, cos they're smart), the priest or teacher or bible would tell you that is 'a sin.'

That never really answered much for me. It never really got to the root of why lying is a bad thing.

I've come to realise since then that honesty is the best policy. I've tried living a lie.

It doesn't work.

As much as you might try and wallpaper over the truth that is in your mind and body at any one time, it will just persist.

When you're earning a crust though, the rest of the world apparently isn't ready to open up; alcohol and prozac reign supreme, people will lie and cheat and tread over one another to climb the 'greasy pole', to get higher up the illusory 'property ladder.'

If you're not happy with your life and you're living a lie, you might want to change to the other side.

Just don't try doing it at work.
